: I think the key distinction you are missing is that we (the volunteers) *aren't* employees. An employee like Achenar had more resources to pull from for contests, where we as volunteers are much more limited. Ideally, people are entering these contests for the community and for a chance to practice and show off their stuff. The prizes are obviously an incentive, but they aren't the only reason that most people enter these. The short version is yes, the heaviness of the prizes does affect us. The volunteers have internal support, but these contests are run by us, and are not something that Riot the entity is actively investing in. The Rioters that support us give up a good chunk of their *free* time to help us run these contests too. That's not to say we can't run contests with bigger prizes, but we have a choice to make. We can run contests more regularly to get people engaged, give more people overall a chance to get involved and to double down on the content release hype but have lesser prizes to support the frequency. Or we can run contests less often, fewer people get to participate, and each type of contest (FF, art, replay, etc) gets fewer rotations, but the winners (and only the winners) get a better prize experience. There are pros and cons to both, and our plan is essentially to mix the two. Not all the contests we run will have mind-blowing prizes (and let's be honest a free skin for practicing a beloved hobby doesn't sound so bad), but we get to run these lower impact contests more often.
That's a shame that Riot doesnt invest in the community who continue to create awesome fanart for their game. I remember back when prizes was something like 10k rp for first place which sounds like a lot but in reality its just digital in-game currency which you could argue is a potential loss for Riot but its something that they have an infinite supply of which is basically pixels as opposed to the creators time. There's some standout quality fanart that would cost not to put a specific price on it, but somewhere in the hundreds if you go by commission prices. That's not to say that people only enter for the prizes but it just makes their time and effort all the more worth it. I don't mean to sound like a douche about it but I think I'm not alone with an opinion like this. It's somewhat put me off entering for the longest time now and I've noticed that a lot of previous winners have stopped entering in the recent years. From an artists perspective its kinda like the free or cheap art argument where you could say its practicing your hobby and potentially getting exposure and a bit of money as a bonus but yea that never ends well haha.

: Lunar Revel Art Contest Results - Sponsored by Wacom
Damn... well deserved win on first place haha I dont even play Aurelion sol but that concept makes me want to.
: The first two rewards aren't even that good, I'm pretty sure most people would prefer the 5000RP considering the majority of the submissions will be from digital artists who already have a tablet, most likely a better one too. And what's the go with this competition having the top prize worth ~$100AUD and the top prize of the cosplay competition being worth ~$450AUD? An "Art of League" book with a feature on a League site would be amazing for an artist. Hell, for $450 you could have a far better tablet.
The art contests have gotten the short end of the stick ever since the Shurima art contest and onwards tbh. I honestly feel like art takes a lot of skill, more time and effort in comparison to cosplays especially the ones that are in the top 3 hell even top 5-10.

I'm currently making a game atm for my course that involves floating islands, those small floating rocks are a nice touch totally gonna use that haha >:D

: Pixel art 2017 winners!
Ayyye lmao I won? xD Out of all the comps I've entered who would've thought it'd be the pixel art one that I'd have a win in haha. Gratz to all the winners anyways Chikorita's one is probably my fav.
Maraudaur (OCE)
: Can you upload the 128 x 128 version as well please?
I did, I uploaded the 128x128 version first maybe it didnt go through. But if the next one I upload is blurry can you just use the blown up version when it comes to judging since everything is gonna get blown up anyway haha.
Maraudaur (OCE)
: Pixel art contest 2017
Weird... I did it on photoshop on a 128x128 pixel canvas but when I save it as a jpeg or png it becomes blurry? did the submission come out ok or is it blurry for you as well?(when you zoom in) edit: I uploaded a zoomed in version which is a bigger size if thats ok
: Yup i feel you. It sucks when your best cant make it into the top 3.. yours was great too haha oh well.. Guess we just gotta try even harder next time
Hmm... Idk about trying harder lol I feel like I can just do simple stuff and make honorable mentions. But looking at all the submissions how did Fainaru not make it? her/his works dope D:
: Wow the top 3 certainly are something else, congrats! Btw Maraudaur, can the last contest winner win again? What do you think about extending the top 3 to top 4 whenever a previous winner gets into the top 3 again? It looks like Wacalac will always take a spot in there whenever he enters lol. It feels more like fighting for top 2 spots instead of top 3
I kinda miss the top 10 thing idk why they made it top 3. It's kinda discouraging when you spend 35+ hours on something and get placed with... ehh i'm just being salty lmao I guess having it be top 3 now only makes the quality of the artworks higher since everyone's gunning for top 3. Anyways gratz to the winners, Wacalac never fails to impress me lol.

Np :) keep it up man
: I'm amazed at how the entries have really brought to life the related lore. It makes me more interested in League lore :D Thank you to everyone that put in the time to draw something! I hope everyone checks out [all the other entries]( as well :) My fave entry was Whizza. Really liked the style, colouring and the image of Galio + Lux <3
Alphys one is my fave lol reading the caption "The widow’s eyes rolled back into her head. She collapsed to the floor like a bag of stones. " then I looked at the widows face haha it made my day.

: who were the judges lol, these are all terrible, lack of effort is apparent in the first two cosplays they are dressed half casually in shorts and skirts.
Rude asf lol... I'm guessing that yours wasnt even shortlisted?
: The other thing with an internal panel is it would kind of make the shortlist redundant and in my very biased opinion I would be sad to see that go.
I like how they are trying to get the community involved with the voting but after some thought I feel like maybe an internal panel would be more efficient in judging future comps resulting in quicker contest results. Not to sound like douchebag or anything but I think most of us realize that the top 3-10 or whatever is pretty much decided even before the voting and the shortlist is really just to show recognition and to reward the people who "tried" a little bit harder than everyone else who didn't make it... OK maybe there's a better and nicer way to say that but yea thats just my opinion. Like every contest I see I can already make out the winners list before the votes are even cast and yea it is sad and disheartening to see when my work doesn't make it but I guess that's just more motivation for the next comp right? But mostly the reason as to why I think that an internal panel would be the best option is to rid us of that bitter feeling when "certain" works make it higher than it really deserves during the voting process which idk makes me feel really bad about myself for being so judgemental.
Maraudaur (OCE)
: Hey there were definitely some missed configurations on the voting app. Thats on me. I would love to get your feedback on the above comment to Hyoton to see how we should best resolve this situation moving forward.
Yea sorry that came off a bit rude haha thanks for all the effort put in to running these comps btw good stuff! hopefully we get more time on the next one :)
Maraudaur (OCE)
: Hi Hyoton, Thanks for providing your feedback. I would be interested to hear about how you and the others feel we should pick winners in the future. Art is quite subjective and with the awesome varying art styles you all have it is difficult to pin down an objective judging method for all the different styles. This is why in the past we have allowed our players to vote, we try to mitigate the popularity aspect of it by raising awareness in our client (lots of players voting who may not know any artists, vs just the artists friends voting). Would you all prefer an internal panel? or do you like the voting part and just want something that has no loop holes?
Yea I just checked the votes lol thats an insane number even the shurima one which was more popular didnt even get that much people voting. At this point I think an internal panel would be best and leave it to facebook votes for the future comps.
Stylus (OCE)
: This has no longer become an art competition, it became a spam vote competition. Even Shaifira would agree with me, in order to stay relevant for top 3 you have to vote using incognito mode. To consistently spam vote on a particular artist. I am writing for you Riot to internally rank the top 20 in order of best to worst. Oh and if you think i'm just salty because I can't match you can remove me from the shortlist, there is no longer integrity in this competition . Your move Riot.
After finding out that you could vote for the same work more than once and then seeing people with 100+ votes in the space of minutes I felt pretty sorry for the people who actually got legit votes. I honestly dont know why they chose this method of voting as opposed to the facebook method which stops anonymous votes via incognito. This current method would only work with ip trackers that stops spam votes like c'mon guys its just $40 rp lol.

Hey, can you confirm if my submission made it? its the with the glowing koala, zed, ashe and ekko.

: There's no way you're gonna save out a 50mb jpeg unless your canvas is like 30,000x30,000 pixels or something... and you can just resize the image in photoshop whenever you want or on export. Getting it to 5mb should not be an issue or cause you to loose much quality.
it was 20x30 inches with 900 ppi lol, I got it to look decent though unless you zoom in a lot
Maraudaur (OCE)
: whats it look like? maybe link it here and I will let you know if I see it in the list of submissions

: 2016 Shurima Art Contest
Hey, this is the first art contest I'm entering and I was wondering, is it alright if we post our submition to deviantart before the contest winners are announced? And also I read that the maximum file size is 5mb... Which is gonna be a problem cause I completely missed that part and rushed to make my entry and so I ended up starting on a really big high res canvas on Photoshop (6gb at the moment) which I'm guessing will probably be 50-100mb when I save the final in .jpeg form and it's kinda too late to restart. That being said, can I just submit a link to my deviantart with the image in full size there or is that not allowed?

10/10 sparks fault. Ive been with them since last year and since July 2014 I've been getting constant 300-8k ping spikes and even with months of going back and forth with them nothing. literally THE worst ISP in new zealand.
